JOB TITLE:  Special Education TOSA

NATURE AND SCOPE

The TOSA is a professional who must have the ability to diagnose student and program needs, prescribe program changes, and implement revised and/or new programs.  The TOSA must also possess strong management skills due to the frequently changing nature and varying schedule of the position.  In addition, the TOSA should demonstrate strong inter-personal and communication skills to positively work with a broad variety of students, staff, and the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Facilitates the Special Education Process district wide and with out of district programs serving Reynolds students
  • Provides Professional Development for licensed and classified staff
  • Collaborates with instructional coaches to provide school and district-level support to classroom teachers
  • Acts as a resource by developing or providing materials conducting in-service activities and disseminating information regarding current technical/instructional strategies.
  • Utilizes and provides effective, proactive behavioral management skills in all school settings
  • Ability to create a new classroom from set up to operational

SECONDARY DUTIES

Assisting in a variety of organizational duties including development of school culture and positive community relations; collegial development and improvement of instruction; development of student schedules, placement of student, student behavior management efforts, supervision of students, and other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position is primarily performed indoors in school buildings, although some outdoor instruction and supervision are required.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student or employee injury or illness
  • Travel to multiple sites.

JOB REQUIREMENTS-QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Oregon certification – Certificate or endorsement in Special Education
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with Students with Special Needs.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND OR ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of assessment instruments and techniques, relevant education laws, state and district policies, and child development patterns
  • Ability to lift students according to acceptable risk factor guidelines (up to 60 pounds maximum without additional support). Exact lifting requirements will vary based upon student weight, tone, and transfer position/space.
  • Abilities to complete a case study and develop and individual education plan; work independently, be flexible and work under time constraints.
