JOB TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist 

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education/Principal

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

To assess, provide direct instruction, and provide services to students with speech, language and social language impairments.

 

NATURE & SCOPE:

This position is subject to Board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable State and Federal statutes.  This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Screen referred students for speech, language, and/or hearing needs.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of a variety of assessment instruments.
  3. Assess students and interpret evaluation results to determine current levels of performance.
  4. Assist with eligibility determination for Special Education and level of service based upon current assessment.
  5. Maintain records and write reports, including clearly reporting results and recommendations from completed Speech/Language testing.
  6. Effectively communicate results of assessment data to parents, staff and team members.
  7. Draft an Individualized Education Program (IEP) based upon student needs.
  8. Implement Individual Education Programs.
  9. Provide direct and indirect speech and language therapy services.
  10. Document student progress and monitor student performance.
  11. Develop speech and language program materials and visual supports for identified students as needed and/or requested.
  12. Develop/Train/Maintain augmentative/alternative communication systems in coordination with the Assistive Technology Specialist.
  13. Act as a liaison with parents and related professionals or agencies regarding student services.
  14. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to identify student needs and consult/work collaboratively in developing educational programming.
  15. Conduct referral and follow-up activities.
  16. Provide information and training to staff, and parents.
  17. Attend required meetings.
  18. Adhere to policies of the district and procedures of the Student Services Department.
  19. Document, maintain, and submit speech and language service logs for Medicaid billing.
  20. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.
  21. Follow federal, state and local laws.
  22. Travel between sites as work assignment dictates.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Hold a current Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech Language Pathology as issued by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (or meets the requirements for Clinical Fellowship Year).
  • Hold a Speech Language Pathology License as issued by the State of Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology or a current teacher license as issued by the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission.
