JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:

Driver Education Instructor – Temporary, Certified

 

Reports To:

Reynolds Driver Education Program Manager

 

Compensation:

$32.00/hourly, PERS retirement contribution for already participating employees

 

Summary:

Driver Education Instructors teach and assess students with a valid instruction permit.  Instructors may be assigned to teach behind the wheel driving lessons or teach in a classroom setting.  The program adheres to strict standards and regulations, in accordance with state laws, administrative rules, school district policies, and following an approved driver risk prevention curriculum.  Driving lessons are taught in school district owned vehicles that are equipped with dual instructor brakes and other required safety equipment.  Driving lessons follow planned routes and activities.  Instructor to student ratios:  1 instructor to 2 students in-car, 1 instructor to not more than 30 students in-classroom.

 

Qualifications/Prerequisites:

Great communication skills.  Competence with computer and cell phone use.  Proficiency in creating and maintaining documentation.  Ability to multi-task.  Ability to manage time and adhere to schedules.  Be at least 21 years of age. Complete an approved instructor training program to become certified (Western Oregon University has course offerings throughout Oregon:  https://trafficsafetyoregon.org/schedule-of-courses/becoming-a-driver-ed-instructor/  ).  Maintain valid first aid & CPR certification.  Hold a valid Oregon driver license.  Meet these driving record qualifications:

Complete a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education every two years. Teach a minimum of 30 hours every two years. Preference will be given to candidates with professional experience working with youth, teaching, or commercial driving.
